Gender Pay Gap

Fascinating article in the AJ revealing the results of their annual Women in Architecture Survey...

The article paints a rather bleak picture reporting that women are being penalised and bullied at work and that a third of female architects felt that their employers favoured men offering them better career advancement.

According to the survey, female partners and principals of UK architecture firms are taking home £55,000 less than their male counterparts, a pay gap that has widened over the past two years. The article explores the difficulties for women in a business with long and unsociable hours.

Colander is working to try and address such issues through the Equilibrium Network, the aim of which is to lower the attrition rates of women professionals within the construction industry and promote diversity around the Board Table. It's not just about promoting women, evidence shows that organisations with a gender mix tend to be more profitable.
