Government Response to the Report of the House of Lords Select Committee on the Built Environment...

A House of Lords Select Committee was appointed in June 2015 to consider the need for a national policy on the built environment.

The report issued by the Committee identified two critical elements that are currently missing in national policy:

  1. There is an urgent need for much greater co-ordination and integration across the Government departments that affect the built environment.
  2. There is a need for a national organisation with the capacity to undertake research, develop guidance and build the networks necessary to raise standards and drive better performance.

The report even goes so far as to suggest the appointment of a Chief Built Environment Adviser to act as a champion for higher standards and promote good practice across and beyond Government.

The Government's response, published in November 2016 is robust: essentially everything is fine as it is.

So that's ok then.
