"The day was expertly facilitated, I think everyone felt confident to express their views and concerns - and so learn from the experience - certainly I know there are things I will do differently on the next project."

Learning from successes and mistakes as a project progresses and then taking the lessons learnt onto the next stage of the project - or onto future projects - is a vital part of the development process.

We facilitate sessions that allow development and design teams to define their working realationships at the outset of a project and agree the most appropriate working methodologies and communications protocols.

As a project progresses, we facilitate project reviews: in-house, or with a wider audience encompassing the full design team, the building users and facilities managers. These sessions tend to focus on the process of delivering a project rather than the end product; the idea being to identify how the next stage of the project – or the next project – could be managed and delivered more efficiently and effectively.

This facilitation work is undertaken by Caroline Cole, drawing on her dual experiences of working in-house with the developer Olympia & York and with a range of prestigious architectural practices in the UK and abroad.

Design Quality Indicators
Colander has played an active role in the development of the Design Quality Indicator tool kit, which is available from the Construction Industry Council. This is a pioneering tool for evaluating the design quality of building designs and helping with the briefing process. It is a generic tool that can be applied to different building types at different stages in a project’s development.
