Appraisal Interviewing
Who is this course for?
This course is for people who have responsibilities for appraising staff. They might be partners or directors, associates, senior architects, office managers or administrative support staff. It aims to improve the quality of appraisal interviews, focusing on the practical and procedural issues that are needed to ensure effective appraisals, as well as the ‘soft’ skills required to guide and direct the discussions with individual members of staff during the appraisals themselves.
Course format
This is a full day course for a maximum of 12 delegates. It includes proven, pragmatic advice, group discussions and activities and can be structured around your practice’s own appraisal format and paperwork. A printed, bound set of courses notes will be given to each delegate.
Course content
All in-house courses can be tailored to meet the exact requirements of individual practices, suggested topics include:
• The importance and advantages of appraisals
• What makes a good, or a bad, appraisal
• The administration of appraisals
• Timescales
• Confidentiality
• Preparations for the appraisal interview – by the appraiser and the appraisee
• The appraisal interview itself, including how to give feedback
• Assessing and responding to different behaviours during the interview
• Dealing with difficult issues
• Identifying the appraisee’s training, coaching or mentoring needs.
• Appraisal follow-up
Cost
The cost of this course is on a sliding scale, depending on the number of delegates:
Up to 9 delegates: £2,000 + VAT per day
10 to 12 delegates: £2,300 + VAT per day
Any preparation time needed to incorporate your practice’s appraisal procedures into the course will be agreed with you in advance and charged at our standard day rates, available on request.

CPD certificates will be issued.
