Who is this course for?
This course is primarily for architects, particularly those who are moving on to more complex projects involving larger teams. It is also for those who aspire to larger and more demanding projects and anyone who finds themselves representing their organisation on project design activities and would like to have more respect, confidence and choice.
Purpose of the course
Most architectural training concentrates on design capabilities, yet the real world expects architects to demonstrate sophisticated management and motivation in all design areas. To lead a design team it is not enough to be a good designer. This course will help develop a working methodology for successful design leadership.
Course format
This is a half-day course. In keeping with the Colander philosophy, the session is intensely practical, using an interactive workshop style with working exercises, case studies, discussions and activities, supported by comprehensive course notes. Delegate numbers are limited in order to maintain the interactive quality of the training.
Course content
• Organising the design resource and fees; looking at each stage, at Architecture and each design member or contributor.
• Assembling a design team; who chooses the structures, selects the organisations and individuals, determines the duties?
• Managing the design team; what works at the larger scale; who establishes design zones, packages, scopes and stages?
• The wider team; therefore more management, more communication, more attention?
• The multi-headed client or customer; do larger projects come with more clients or more knowledgeable clients or not?
• Managing your own time; setting priorities, looking ahead or not.
Cost
The cost per delegate is £240 + VAT: £288. However, a £50 discount is available if payment is received by 2 October 2012: £190 + VAT: £228
CPD
CPD certificates will be issued. For architects, this course complies with RIBA core CPD requirements for practice management.
