Architects as project leaders

Who is this course for?
To lead a project team it is not enough to be a good designer. Architects also need to demonstrate sophisticated management and motivational skills. This course is a primer for all architects who are faced with the task of leading a project. It aims to develop working methodologies for successful project leadership, and so help build the skills and confidence required to lead successfully, confidently and enjoyably.

Course format
This course is run over two days, preferably two weeks apart. A group of 12 to 16 delegates is ideal. In keeping with the Colander philosophy, both days are intensely practical, using an interactive workshop style with working exercises, case studies, discussions and activities. A printed, bound set of courses notes will be given to each delegate.

Course content
All in-house courses can be tailored to meet the exact requirements of individual practices, suggested topics include:
• The role of a project leader
• Architectural appointments and Plans of Work
• Assessing/allocating architectural fees
• Organising architectural resources
• Working with a design team
• Leadership and management
• Understanding and managing clients
• Getting useful briefs
• Budget assessments
• Signing off techniques
• Defining quality
• Taking on, or picking up a new project
• Problem solving
• The practicalities of different locations
• Completions and handovers
• Dealing with unknown issues
• The profile of a project leader

Cost
The cost of this course is on a sliding scale, depending on the number of delegates:
Up to 9 delegates: £4,000 + VAT for two days
10 to 12 delegates: £4,600 + VAT for two days
13 to 15 delegates: £5,200 + VAT for two days
16 delegates: £5,800 + VAT for two days

Preparation time needed to tailor the course to your specific needs will be agreed with you in advance and charged at our standard day rates, available on request.

CPD
All our courses address the RIBA CPD requirements for either Project or Practice Management.
