Coaching is for anyone who feels that they are not achieving their best – whether they are architects or support staff. It provides support that is distinct from any other, with a level of attention and commitment to the individual that is rarely experienced elsewhere. Coaching is particularly helpful to people who are facing change: the challenge of a promotion, or a new project. Equally, someone in a big job might simply need support in order to be effective.
At Colander our coaching focuses on communications, assertiveness, management and leadership skills. We work with Partners and Directors, architectural staff and support staff to review:
• Inter-personal skills, behaviours and relationships with people, particularly work colleagues.
• Thoughts, opinions and perspectives, particularly those that limit ability to achieve any personal or professional goals.
• Team-working and general managerial or leadership issues.
Sessions are confidential, however, it is usual to set clear goals against a plan that can be shared with colleagues.
Coaching involves personal contact over a period of time, so there needs to be a rapport between the individual and the coach, we therefore suggest an initial exploratory session before embarking on a longer term strategy over a 6 or 12 month period, usually involving two-hour, monthly session.
In collaboration with Buro Four, Project Managers, we also offer a mentoring service to architects that focuses specifically on the day to day design management and delivery of projects through our project reviews and health checks.
